Dubrovnik, attractive boating place

It is always nice to be back in Dubrovnik, especially when the universe conspires and allows you to spend a night aboard Beneteau Oceanis 43 „Srebrna II“ , and in a marina that is very nice and pleasant during hot summer days because of the river that pours into ACI marina Dubrovnik. One more plus is that it is less crowded than marinas in central Adriatic.

If you want to start your day actively, I suggest going for a swim in the pool or jogging or walking along the river. Dubrovnik marina is equipped with a parking lot, cafes, swimming pool, restaurant and a fuel station, with summer castle Sorkočević being its most beautiful part. Right here in the castle is where you will find Ultra sailing office in Dubrovnik.

ACI marina Dubrovnik is very well connected to city center (Old town) by 1a and 1b buses that go every 15 minutes, and they will take you to the Old town quickly. That is if you are lucky enough to avoid crowds in Gruž where the locals’ everyday life takes place (shops, supermarkets, banks etc.). I, on the other hand, „picked“ a day when Gruž day is celebrated so sights of roasted lamb and mutton by the side of the road were many in numbers….

My colleagues warned about the crowds in the Old town.., still it was not a problem to make the usual tour of Stradun, churches of St Ignatius and St Blaise, Rector’s palace… and of course seeing the Porporela and the taxi boats… As for the shade, you can always find it in the narrow streets of the Old town (kalete), and coffee and cake at „Festival“ caffe were especially delightful.

One day is enough to see the most important sights in Dubrovnik, and if you have a chance, get a tour guide. It would be a shame to miss out on the story these old walls have to tell.

From the Old town you can take a nice 15 minute walk to Gruz, where you can catch a bus to Komolac where ACI marina is.

After the busy Dubrovnik walls, even the turnover Saturday in the marina cannot disturb the peace. Most of the charter boats start from Dubrovnik on the first day and go to Šipanska luka or Ston, and then further up to Mljet. The great thing is that in the whole Elaphiti archipelago there is not a marina that is charged (other than docking in Šipanska luka). First bigger marina is ACI marina Korčula, which requires a pre- booking in the season (online). But on the way to Korčula there is a great number of islands where you can anchor and enjoy swimming, sailing….. Being in the far south of Croatia, Dubrovnik is wild and tame at the same time, rich with culture and well worth the visit.. A truly unique city!
