Saint Domnius is a saint of the Roman catholic church, bishop and martyr of Solin, protector of the city of Split and the Split-Makarska archdiocese.
Saint Dominius came at the end of III. century from Antioch in Salona the capital of the then Roman province of Dalmatia, to spread the Christian faith. Emperor Diocletian therefore ordered him to be martyred. It is held that the people of Split in VII. century entrusted to abbot Martin to bring to Rome only the relics of the saint, and the remaining bones were stored in the former imperial mausoleum of Diocletian’s Palace, already dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

During the century, the festa of St. Domnius (Sudamja) turned into one of the most picturesque farewells on the east coast of the Adriatic.
In honor of saint, the city organizes a series of festivities every year (except this one); from the concert, traditional a cappella singing , the sale of traditional souvenirs, delicacies and various Croatian products, wooden butterflies and similar toys for children to wooden utensils for those older.
It is a combination of Dalmatian scent, colors, love, culture, flowers, laughter, despathy…
