Sailing in national parks: do’s and dont’s

Tags

Whether you find yourself sailing in the central (Split, Trogir) or southern Adriatic (Dubrovnik), you will probably end up visiting a national park.  At first it may seem that it is just a sailing place like any other but there are rules that apply only here.

TO DO:

1. First of all you have to have a ticket for entering the national park; make sure you have it with you till you exit the park. They are sold at the entrance, but somewhere (like Kornati) ticket is much cheaper if you buy it beforehand in places outside of the park.

2. In some National parks (Mljet), mooring fee in Polače and Pomena includes enterance ticket to the like. So bring your mooring ticket with you.

3. Your enjoyment in the beauty of the untouched nature is a close second, so swimming and hiking is allowed, but only in spots marked for these activities.

4. Rent a kayak or bike on island Mljet

5. Take the taxi boat from Skradin to Skradin’s Buk in national park Krka

  1. Take a swim in nice and fresh Krka’s water during the July and August

NOT TO DO:

1.  You are on a boat and you may have a diving license and you have brought your equipment and the crystal clean sea is just calling out to you; stay strong. Diving with scuba gear is strictly prohibited, this is possible only in groups that have a special permit from the park administration.

2. Same goes for fishing; even though you may have acquired a license online while vacationing in Croatia, here it is not valid, as all the plant and animal life here is protected by law. With this said, disturbing any kind of wildlife is punishable with severe fines.

3.  Also goes for lighting a fire, or bringing in and/or using firearms and spear guns.

4. Make sure there isn’t any waste or trash coming from your boat as conservation of plant and animal life along with the landscape is a priority here.  Your enjoyment in the beauty of the untouched nature is a close second, so swimming and hiking is allowed, but only in spots marked for these activities.

5. Take note there are some places in the national park where visitors are not allowed (special forbidden zones), so make sure that you don’t end up where you shouldn’t, no matter how beautiful and tempting it is.

National parks are considered to be a gem of a country, but it is not easy to keep them that way, that is why we all have to pitch in and allow people and generations that come after us to relish places that are a piece of heaven on Earth.
