Regatta st. Nicholas 2017


Each year, following its ancient tradition, residents of Komiza, together with the participants of the regatta of St. Nicholas for singles or two sailors, celebrate the feast of St. Nicholas in a unique way – by burning a wooden ship. This tradition, hundreds of years old and specific for this small place, is maintained in the honor of all sailors and ships. As St. Nicholas is also the patron saint of Komiža, residents and guests can enjoy in the rich program full of cultural events, performances and concerts.
The Sailing Club Mornar from Split participates in this event, organizing every year the St. Nicholas Regatta for singles and two sailors, 2nd to 6th of December. Regatta participants are sailing demanding, 160 NM long route on relation Split – O. Stipanska (Maslinica) – Glavat – Palagruža – Komiža. This regatta is specific because it is, as we have mentioned,reserved exclusively for singles and doubles, and participants are sailing all the time, witout stopping in, mostly, unfavorable weather conditions typical of December and winter.
This year also Ultra had its own representatives. Ante Rnjak, Ultra Sailing School Instructor and Nikola Barić, , sailed on the Beneteau First 34.7 “Abracadabra”, the smallest sailboat in regatta. They have achieved an excellent result and ended the regatta at 4th place. Congratulations!
