International Sail And Power Academy, ISPA, our certification body for sailing courses, takes the training of its instructors very seriously. They also believe that one of the best ways to improve your boating skills is to become a sailing instructor yourself. Explain and transmit your knowledge to newcomers and spend more time at sea is a successful approach!

Instructor training in 2024

This is the reason why we decided to experiment this approach. Initially designed as an integration program, our 10 days instructor training in spring 2024 will also be opened to skilled and motivated former students: maybe You?

Who can apply?

• Sailors with experience on small sailboats up to 28 feet and/or experience in singlehanded sailing.
• Experienced professional skippers with affinity towards sailing.
• Former sailing school students with minimum ISPA Day Skipper certificate at time of application and additional significant sailing experiences (ideally registered in your personal ISPA logbook).

Program

WEEK 1:  5 days

• Introducing Ultra Sailing school and ISPA program
• Reviewing theory and sailing practice as per ISPA method
• Training maneuvers on different sizes of sailboats (27 do 51 feet)
• Collision regulation / Navigation skills

WEEK 2:  5 days

• Guests relations, Ultra Sailing values
• Safety briefing, communication on board
• Simulations of manoeuvring situations with guests / hostess / students
• Safety at sea / MOB practise / First Aid (external trainer)
• Check in/out – Basic mechanics and electricity for skippers
• Advanced sail trimming and steering, theory and practice

Price

The price is 1.250€ for 10 days education program.

Ultra Sailing school is expanding in 2024. Therefore, potential talented sailing instructors will be offered a special discount to join this two-week integration program. The discount will be confirmed to selected candidates before reservation.

Professional skipper training in 2024

The second week of the education is the same as the professional skipper training program. This is an excellent opportunity for young professional skippers to refine their competences. It is also a very effective way to gain confidence as a bareboat skipper.
For former students who are not quite ready to teach yet, this can also be an interesting step towards more autonomy and expertise.

The price is 750€ for 5 days program.
